Laura Mercier Foundation Primer Review:
This is the second foundation primer I ever purchased (the first was Smashbox Photo Finish Primer). I believe I purchased my first tube of this over 5 years ago, and re-purchased again. I ran out but luckily still have a deluxe sample which I've been using a lot of lately.

This primer feels good on my skin and does what it should: it creates a great base for makeup and prolongs my makeup wear. This is one of my favorite foundation primers, and I've tried/own a lot of brands & formulas of primer. I never have issues when I use this primer.

I do recommend this primer!

Now let me know what you think...

  1. Seems like a great primer. I haven´t used it, but I would like to try it.

  2. I've been wanting to try Laura Mercier's primers, but I've had bad luck with most of the other primers that I have tried. The main reason for me to wear a primer is to prolong the wear of my foundation; however, the Philosophy, Smashbox original, Nars, & Amazing Cosmetics primer don't do that. The Smashbox light primer makes my L'oreal True Match foundation last only an hour longer, while the MUFE primer only makes my MUFE HD foundation last 2 hours longer; however, the primer doesn't make a difference with my other foundations.

  3. All of the few primers I've tried (including this one, I think) made me break out. And I don't mean a spot or two, like I frequently get anyway -- I mean deep, tragic, ridiculous cystic lumpy horribleness. I think it's probably the silicone most of them contain? I just stick to doing touch ups with my beloved powder foundation...never doing that again!

  4. @ Joyce: You may get better results if you match up the primer type with the foundation type. For example: a water-based primer with a water-based foundation, or a silicone based primer with a silicone based foundation, or an oil based primer with an oil based foundation, and so on. I know I get the best results whenever I do that. Plus, I always use a setting powder and that makes everything last for me. But then again, I have oily skin so I need to use a primer and setting powder or my makeup will not last.

@ collier: I'm sorry to hear you had such a bad reaction to this primer. This primer is non-comedogenic so it shouldn't clog pores, but your skin may have a sensitivity to other ingredients in this primer. This is not a silicone based primer... it's a water based primer, and I don't think there is any silicone in the ingredients, but I'm not 100% sure. Don't give up on primers completely! Not all primers work with all skin types and a lot of people hate their primer until they find the perfect one... meaning like I said in response to the comment above: finding a matching primer to foundation; water based primer with a water based foundation; oil-based primer with an oil-base foundation, etc. Some people only need a setting powder, and others live without both. You'll find what works best for you :)
